How do I complete my background check?

Want to earn a Safety Badge on your profile? The only way to do that is to complete or submit a background check:

1. Upload a Background Check - Have you already completed a background check within the last year? Skip the fees and submit a copy of your previous check with a State-issued Photo ID.

2. Pay for a Background Check - If you haven't completed a background check in the last year, you can pay $9 to earn your safety badge.


How do I upload a Background Check?

1. Select "Upload a Background Check."


2. You can upload your background check and State-issue ID. 

As a reminder, background checks must be completed within the last 12 months. Select "Upload," and you can select a photo from your Photo Library, Camera, or Files.


3. Agree to Terms and Conditions and the Fair Credit Reporting Act Disclosure. 

Once you check this box, you will be able to select "Submit." Our Upwards Support Team will review your Background Check and State-issued ID to ensure it meets our safety requirements. 


4.  Check your email for next steps!

Our Upwards Support Team will review your Background Check and State-Issued ID to ensure they meet our safety requirements. Our Support Team will provide an update about the status of your application. If your documents are denied, you are always welcome to resubmit.


How do I pay for a Background Check?

1. Select "Get a Background Check - $9."


2. Select "Add payment method" and enter your card information.

Once you have entered your payment info, Select "Pay $9.32."


3. You will be redirected to Checkr to request the background check. 

Select "Get Started". You will be expected to enter the following information:

• Phone Number

• Email

• First and Last Name

• Birthdate

• Social Security Number 

• Current Zip Code

• Acknowledge the Disclosure Agreement

• Acknowledge Authorization to Checkr and Upwards

• Virtual Signature and Date


4. Check your email for status updates!

Once your results are ready, you can log into the Candidate portal and check your report: https://candidate.checkr.com/login.


How long does it take to verify my account?

Account verification with Upwards typically takes two to three days for most caregivers after the background check is completed. However, the exact timeframe may vary based on your location and personal history. We prioritize the safety and security of our community, which is why every caregiver must undergo a thorough background check before joining our platform. Rest assured, we work diligently to process checks as swiftly as possible while upholding the highest safety standards for both families and caregivers. 


Can I get the results of my background check?

Yes! Since you completed the background check, you can access the results here: https://candidate.checkr.com/login. We recommend you request a copy for your own records as you may need to provide them to a potential employer or other organizations in the future. 


Upwards prioritizes the privacy and security of all users. According to federal and state privacy laws, we will only disclose the results of the background check to you. We will not share the results with prospective families.
